Most racing sims offer 3D previews of cars in the menu, instead of showing an 
image of the selected car. That's preferred since it allows you to see the car 
from all angles (in some cases rotate it with mouse) and also preview the 
chosen car color. VDrift implemented this after StuntRally was forked so maybe 
it can be ported over.

An alternative (more awesome and found in modern car sims) is having a garage 
interior mesh as the background when the menu is open. The car is in the center 
and you can rotate the view with your mouse and zoom in or out. That would be 
awesome and give a more modern feel to SR, but the menus might require adapting.
