What is your recommendation: To use "df-latest.conf" or "df-releases.conf" in /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos?

It depends if you want software updates or not. df-latest.conf is periodically updated whereas df-releases.conf points to the exact list of packages made available at release time.

They may be full of security holes after some time but some people like bank-like stability.

almost everyone will use df-latest.conf and it's automatically installed with new source builds and also the pkg bootstrap (this changes a few days ago).

So unless you have a specific and identified need for df-releases.conf, I recommend df-latest.conf.
