Add an option to display Groups instead of Tabs of current group after STG button is clicked #914

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. If I want to switch to a different group, I have to click on the STG button -> Go back to groups -> select the group I want.

Describe the solution you'd like It will be great to have an option which will display groups instead of tabs of current group after clicking the STG button.

Describe alternatives you've considered I found no other way how to switch to a different group with two mouse clicks only.

Thank you.

Not sure what you are seeing. When I click the STG button in the Firefox tab bar it show a list of groups. Clicking on the arrow at the right edge of a group will show the contents of the group. My thought was maybe a setting changes this, but I can't find one.

little-fish commented 2 years ago

Well, this is the behavior I would like to have. But when I click the button, a content of current group is shown and I have to click Go back to groups to see a list of groups. I found no related settings for it.

I couldn't find a setting either. I have tried to get the group to stay open and be open when I click the icon, but haven't been successful.

This problem is the only thing I don't like about STG. Since some people apparently get the desired behavior (the list of groups), then I would expect there to be some setting with a side effect maybe that causes the list of tabs in the current group to be shown instead.

Doc and little-fish, which browser and OS are you using? Maybe there is a pattern. For my side, it's like julie said, seeing the groups is the very normal behaviour for all the years I worked with STG now. It's just the default and I can't find a setting which could change that What happens in the sidebar view of STG, the same?

DocSalvager commented 7 months ago

Browser: Firefox 115.4 (64 bit) Debian 11

Could it maybe be a FF config setting side effect?

little-fish commented 7 months ago

Firefox 121.0. Windows 10.

I also think it will be FF settings related, because it happens on my other laptop with the same OS.

vitusson commented 7 months ago

2 very different OS and different browsre versions.

to check if it's a FF config setting, I would open FF with a new fresh profile without any altered settings, install STG, import the STG settings and see if it still happens. But maybe it's one of the other addons you both are using which cause this weird side effect?

I think I found the setting which is causing this, Its

Open Group after After changing to it image

which is confusing cause most of the time Nothing about the Group changed and it still reverts back to the Tab listing.

little-fish commented 2 months ago

That's it. Thanks for pointing it out. What is the main purpose of this option anyway?

i thinks its to show the group if there's any changes made to it.
