You should be able to switch between texture groups with tabs on the texture tab just like the animator.

The ability to switch between textures on the texturerer is broken anyway, so I think the best option is to remove it or disable it.

I don't think tabs is the best idea.

How is it broken? it works for me

I doesn't change the textures at all for me

Ahh, the real issue is that the default texture group doesn't let you remove layers from it, not an actual issue with the ribbon funciton.

Oh yeah the texture tab layers section doesn't allow for the removing yeah.

In context of the texture tab being to edit the texture files, I guess having tabs makes sense

the tabs would basically let you edit the different groups, and swap out the layers with those of the group selected. and clicking an the plus to add a new tab would also add a group with no layers.
