Case in point (DT = 0.2, p = 5) - congestion is causing traffic on the fast lanes, less so on the slow lanes. Note this is not due to low desired speed cars making hogging up the fast lane - average desired speeds trend appropriately! (see below)
Fast lane is now almost a little too fast (upcoming commit): merging is more aggressive, same for overtaking.
With the current merging system, the fast lane is actually the slower lane of the two. Merging is the cause of this - constraining the number of lanes to 1 leads to an average speed of ~110km/h for relatively uncongested traffic (
p = 0.1
).Presumably, cars get cocky, and lane change in such a way that they cause the other car to slow down unnecessarily.
