Game Play- Skills, Experience, and Leveling Up #11

Right now, entities have a couple of stats:

Strength Dexterity Agility Constitution Wisdom Intelligence Charisma

This is in addition to HP and EXP.

-I was thinking that entities could level up in various skills to make entities more unique. Two entities might have the same stats, say a focus on dexterity and intelligence, but one might be focused on hacking and the other might be focused on ranged combat with exotic pistols.

-Having a wide variety of skills forces players to try and pickup varied entities, rather than having 7 entities, each with a focus on a different stat.

-Having lots of skills to choose from also adds some excitement to the game, especially if you don't tell the player all the skills. It might be cool to have the player discover a nifty new type of skill after they experiment a bit.

-Every time an entity does a successful action it gains XP.

-It might be cool to have XP be tied to the skill it was gained with, so the entity gains levels and improves the seven basic stats, but also levels up in the skills it tends to use.

-Completing a basic action might yield a lot of XP when an entity has a low level in the appropriate skill, but the more the entity completes the action successfully, the less XP it gains, depending on the difficulty of the action of course. In order to keep leveling up in conventional firearms: Rifles, for example, you would have to fight harder to hit monsters, or use a more difficult to wield rifle.

-Some actions might depend on two or more skills. These actions might train the entity's skills a bit faster, because they pull from multiple disciplines. People learn better when they connect what they know.

-Maybe provide XP awards or some sort of bonus when you train certain groups of skills? Like if an entity has firearms and repair, give a bonus to the entity when it tries to repair firearms, and give an XP bonus for using skills effectively?
