Cherry picked the commits fixing an issue with the wrong SimpleDateFormat pattern (Java 6 was affected).
Additionally adjust the test to fit source changes in 1.1 branch.
Also adjust the CHANGELOG accordingly to reflect the changes for the upcoming bugfix release.
