It would be really nice to have a little more interaction with pokémon, nothing excessive, just something cute.
Something like, interacting with a Pokémon you own makes it jump in place, run away or show a balloon on its head depending on its happiness (example from Pokemon Go), leaving them out of the ball gives them a chance to bring back random items (like a passive Forage), or disobey if the player doesn't have enough badges for their level.
One day it would be fantastic to finally have the ability to pet your pokémon, but that would likely be too much of a challenge to achieve.
