Add support for northamericax4v1pg2_r025_IcoswISC30E3r5 resolution #6355

Closed tangq closed 2 weeks ago

tangq commented 4 weeks ago

This PR adds the northamericax4v1pg2_r025_IcoswISC30E3r5 resolution for the upcoming v3.NARRM release. It uses the 25->100 km grids for atmosphere (same as v2.NARRM), 25 km grids for land and river (same as v3.HR), and 30 km grids for ocean and sea ice (same as v3.LR).

New maps and domain files were staged on the inputdata repo.

[BFB] for tests not using this grid

Tested successfully with the 5-day smoke test at /lcrc/group/e3sm/ac.qtang/scratch/chrys/SMS_D_Ln5.northamericax4v1pg2_r025_IcoswISC30E3r5.F2010.chrysalis_intel.20240417_171048_f9wo2q

Are all the new input files in the correct netcdf version? (not netcdf4).

tangq commented 4 weeks ago

Yes, the new files are all in the classic netcdf format.

rljacob commented 4 weeks ago

By "v3.NARRM release" to you mean v3.0.1 ?

tangq commented 4 weeks ago

Hi Rob, by "v3.NARRM release" I meant the NARRM configuration as part of the E3SMv3 release. Is v3.0.1 the version to include the v3 release of the NARRM (and HR) configuration(s)? If so, yes.

rljacob commented 4 weeks ago

Yes we are planing a v3.0.1 release for the end of this month for new compsets. It will be good to include this. Not sure hi-res will be ready then.

wlin7 commented 2 weeks ago

Merged to next. The conflict (resolved) is with the ocean mesh IcosXISC30E3r7 that was added separately.

tangq commented 1 week ago

A new map analysis tool is available and will be helpful to run when adding support for new resolutions.
