Though I am not familiar with the mechanism file, it is clear after the reactions with SOA, the tracer gas amount remains unchanged (sounds like acting as catalyst). This appears consistent with the intent to having no impacts on gas chemistry. Does this however affect the conservation of particle mass? (This is just out of curisority. After Ziming's approval, I will merge it and separately cherry pick the commit for NGD_v3atm_v2.1ocnice_alt branch to for coupled simulations).
Re: Does this however affect the conservation of particle mass?
I don't think so.
This commit adds chemUCI gas tracers to the right side of SOA reactions to remove most of their impacts on gas chemistry. Without these changes the ISOP loss will be double-counted and lead to too low trop ozone.
