@evasinha This looks very useful! Do you have a workflow to generate the ILAMB plot. We have a similar use case for E3SM Diags: https://portal.nersc.gov/project/e3sm/e3sm_diags_for_cmip/ and the workflow is available in e3sm_diags github repo. We can have something similar for ILAMB and and document in zppy.
@chengzhuzhang The workflow for ILAMB plots in Burrows et al., 2022 can be found at https://github.com/rubisco-sfa/elm2ilamb_wkflow I found the link to this work flow by following the link provided at the end of Burrows et al., 2022 (https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.11097356.v2 ).
@chengzhuzhang Just wanted to touch base if the workflow shared above is what you were referring to?
@evasinha Thank you for providing this workflow. I just had a chance to look into it. My understanding is that zppy's timeseries ts
task with cmip
format turned on should be able to replace this elm2ilamb
workflow developed a few years back. The only caveate is that our e3sm_to_cmip
tool needs to support more ilamb
variables, which is addressed in the issue (https://github.com/E3SM-Project/e3sm_to_cmip/issues/242) that you are helping with.
For invoking standalone ilamb
runs to already processed cmip datasets, we only need to download and organize targeted variables in a way that ilamb
can loop over.
How will this affect the next version number?

No.
Describe the solution you'd like
The ILAMB analysis should include outputs from few published E3SM simulation. For e.g., Burrows et al., 2021 and Golaz et al. 2022.
ILAMB plots for simulations in Burrows et al., can be viewed here.
It would be nice to have the option to compare our simulations in Burrows et al., 2021 and Golaz et al. 2022.
