We already have the shape-factor honoring rho_<species> diagnostics, which maps particles to charge density fields.
For neutral particles, such as photons, this cannot be used. Additionally, sometimes asking for the number density is a better choice.
On our Tue, Jan 31 2023 dev meeting, we decided to add n_<species> as an additional option to diagnostics. We will start with regular diagnostics and need to add a vector field v_<species> later on as well if we also want to support this in BTD.
