This would be a PERFECT feature for this filter, at the moment only kxDriver
(that
doesn't work with an x-fi) and creative Dolby Digital Live! encoder can do that

That would be awesome. At the moment, the only software that does that is the
kxDriver mentioned by giulio, and has a very limited sound card support. If
AC3Filter
could encode all analog system sounds to 5.1, it would be very useful for
gaming, as
most of them support 5.1 channels, but only in the 6 analog discrete channels.
I'm
sure a LOT of people would enjoy that.

I use DTS Connect on a SoundMax AD1998 chip for the same purpose, but it
crashes
with lot of games.
A better solution would be AWESOME.

Would be a killer feature. No need to buy expensive sound card with DTS connect
or DD
Live. For now im stuck with 3 cables running all over my room,Would be nice to
change
them for single optic SPDIF cable.

like this on GNU/Linux environments?

+1 Also, they need to fix the AC3 Filter description which says "It can encode
any audio source to AC3 on-the-fly and send it over SPDIF to the receiver. "
It cannot encode 6 channel PCM to AC3 (gaming, etc.). It's not clear what they
mean by "any". I'm looking into getting Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect
working but I'll have to buy a new sound card.
I'm guessing this hasn't been done yet because of licensing issues but I hope
I'm wrong.

This feature would make PC gaming and AC3Filter so much better. It's what we've
been needing for ten years! If Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect can do it,
AC3Filter can as well.
Here's a working virtual driver solution:
http://ac3filter.net/forum/index.php?topic=93189.msg96074#msg96074
This needs to be streamlined, the bugs worked out, and latency reduced by
tweaking sampling if necessary.

I'm trying to figure this one out as well. I've seen people have succeeded with
VAC (like comment above) but I'm looking for a free solution.
It *should* be possible with JackAudio (instead of VAC) although I couldn't get
it to work.
I'm going to try writing a DirectShow usermode only virtual audio card, or
maybe modifying AC3Filter to behave as an audio renderer filter (although I'm
not entirely sure this is possible yet)

i also wish for this option to pass all audio through the ac3filter before
output through sound card.
I get the impression that windows at least needs a audio driver to pass audio
through, as everyone has been talking about here and it seems that implementing
this driver is complicated but, based on how far ac3filter has come i can see
this becoming possible since most audio decoded through most codecs become pcm
before being sent to the sound card except any pass-though media such as DD,
DTS, and WMA pro when being sent through spdif.

virtual audio card solution
Breakaway Live - for the virtual card driver (just use the demo version)
AudioResampler (a product from the same company must be run to make the driver
work instead of outputting white noise, no need to start anything in
AudioResampler just minimize it)
of course set it all up in graph studio
http://blog.monogram.sk/janos/tools/monogram-graphstudio/ but my problem as i
have made a link to in my last post is that there is a noticeable delay and has
become worse when using the more recent graph studio next
