Can we make free international calls via the sipgate-sipsorcery number through cell? #90

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.calling out through FRINGS SIP
2.selecting a phone number from contacts who does not have FRING.
3.Calling internationally and getting a recorded message that says "You don't 
have sufficient credit to make this call"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected that since I have a SIPGATE phone number and routed it through 
SIPSORCERY that I would have a number that COULD make outgoing calls 
internationally FOR FREE.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
SPRINT HTC EVO CELL PHONE, FRING, SIP, SIPGATE, SIPCORCERY. (I also have GV but 
that's not what I want to use to make international calls)

Please provide any additional information below.
Is there a way to make free outbound international calls from my cell that has 
been set up through SIPGATE and SIPSORCERY? If not, what do you suggest so I 
may have the capability?

Hey Mishka, no need to open another ticket. Log into your Google Voice account 
and add some talk time credits in order to call internationally. Google Voice 
gives you free unlimited calling to the US and Canada. You have to pay a few 
cents per minute to call any other country. When you log onto Google Voice, 
look at the bottom of the menu on the left and you'll see where to add credits. 
When you call by wifi from Mexico to the US, it will be free unlimited, but 
when you call by wifi to Mexico, Google Voice will charge you a few cents per 
minute. Its still way better than the $1.69 or whatever that Sprint will charge 
you.

Yes its 19 cents per minute. I had already set that up a few days ago. Just 
wanted to know if there was a free way through cell and the 415 number.  But 
You didn't mention it so I guess that's it! Thank you

One of the main reasons this whole thing works is because there are numerous 
companies out there that allow you to receive calls on regular phone lines and 
answer them on Internet phones (like Fring or sipdroid). They don't charge you 
anything to receive calls. Have you ever placed a call from the Google Voice 
website? You enter a phone number you want to call and then select the phone 
you want to use. The phone you indicated you want to use starts ringing and 
when you answer it, you are then connected to the number you entered on the 
website. Otherwise, when people call you on your Google Voice number then all 
the phones you told GV to ring will start ringing, allowing you to answer the 
call.

So if you think about it, every call you MAKE OR RECEIVE via Google Voice is 
actually an INCOMING call to one of your phones. As I said above, sipgate will 
receive calls and transfer them to your Internet phone free forever. Therefore 
every call you make or receive through Google Voice will appear as an INCOMING 
call to sipgate. SIP Sorcery automates the process of logging into the GV 
website and placing outbound calls. The key is that SIP Sorcery tells Google 
Voice to call you on your sipgate number. Sipgate then passes the call to your 
SIP Sorcery account, and SIP Sorcery then passes the call to your Internet 
phone.

I explained above how every call to and from Google Voice actually appears as 
an incoming call to sipgate. If you choose to place an outbound call via 
sipgate, they will charge you -- even calls to US numbers. Mexican landlines 
costs 9.9 cents/min to call and Mexican cellphones cost 24.9 cents/min! If 
Google Voice only charges you 19 cents/min, it seems they took the average 
between the two charges.

Now, with a bit of research and changes you will need to make to the script, we 
could probably find you a provider that may charge you less per minute for 
calls to Mexico. Is it worth all that effort before your trip? Probably not. 
Are you going to find a provider that gives you free calls to any Mexican 
number? I'd say no way.

If you need to call Mexican phone numbers quite a bit, then perhaps there would 
be value in determining the best way to place that call. The good news is that 
it would only require copying over a new script to replace the Simple Dial 
Plan. You wouldn't have to change everything else out or undo all of the work 
we did. When you use Fring to place calls, regardless of using wifi or not, it 
will choose the least expensive method to place the call.. free when calling US 
or Canada, and whatever provider we find for you for calling Mexico or any 
other country.

It would be nice if we could find a way to get phone companies to "reverse bid" 
and have your phone choose the winning bid (lowest cost) for each individual 
call, but I think that's a long way away.

I was just thinking. This also gives me concern. When you said you set up your 
Google Voice credits a few days ago, you should not have gotten a message about 
not having enough credits. This is the second time you've said something that's 
making me think your Fring is configured with your sipgate SIP credentials 
instead of your SIP Sorcery account. Did you confirm for me that when you go 
into your SIP Sorcery accounts page, you see an entry in the SIP Bindings list 
at the bottom of the screen? This is important, because sipgate gives you 60 
free minutes to call US-based phone numbers. If you are placing calls with 
Fring thinking that you are logged into SIP Sorcery but are actually logged 
into sipgate, Fring will eventually stop working.

Please confirm that when you have Fring running, your SIP Sorcery accounts page 
shows an entry in the SIP Bindings list down below. Perhaps you added credits 
to your Google Voice account *after* you got the message about not having 
enough credits and I'm just assuming you did it in the opposite direction.

To add to the above, since you indicated you're on sprint, it's not free but 
for $5/month you can get free calling to Mexican border cities and $0.05/minute 
to the rest of Mexico by adding their Mexico plan (plus $0.18 per call to 
mobile phone).  If you're doing a lot of calling to Mexico, this is probably 
the cheapest option. (Roaming in Mexico is a different story, much more 
expensive.  This is only for calls placed from the US.)

I'm wondering why you're trying to guess which provider (Google Voice or 
Sipgate) the call went with? First, there is Console trace and this is the 
right way to check it "online". If you don't dare to repeat the call, turn to 
the logs.

When you login onto Google Voice website, click on "Placed" in vertical menu on 
the left side of the screen and it will display you a list of all your calls. 
If the call went thru Google Voice, you'll find it there.

I'm sure there is a similar thing on Sipgate. I don't have Sipgate account and 
can't give exact directions but hope you'll figure it out.

Crap... The binding page thingy is missing now... I deleted the sipdroid, 
perhaps that is why? maybe I need to add it back... another walk through...

Sprint doesn't offer the 5 dollar plan anymore. But thank you.

So what do I do now about the binding thing

Fring should register to Sipsorcery and you should see that registration in the 
bindings. If it's not in there, either you misconfigured the Fring or Fring 
can't connect to the server. I'd start with investigation of the logs to find 
out whether you called via Sipgate or Google Voice. If it was Sipgate, you 
misconfigured Fring -> unsubscribe from SIP service in Fring and subscribe 
again. This time make sure you specify sipsorcery.com as SIP proxy and enter 
correct SIP account name and password.

Yes it sounds like you had sipdroid configured correctly but Fring configured 
incorrectly. Delete the SIP account you added to Fring and add a new one, as 
Mike said above. Use your SIP Sorcery username and sipsorcery.com as the 
domain. If you can configure a proxy in Fring, then use sipsorcery.com there as 
well. Nothing on your phone should know anything about sipgate.com only 
sipsorcery.com.

Mishka, you may also log into your sipgate account and look at your call 
history. Every single call should be incoming. If you see any outgoing calls 
that's your final confirmation you were placing calls with Fring logged into 
the wrong service. Make sure Fring knows nothing about sipgate.com

I deleted and re did the Sipsorcery thru FRING. That also brings the bindings 
page up  
I checked my outgoing calls on Sipgate. You were right, I only have 22 minutes 
left due to outgoing sipgate calls. But I think we fixed that with the right 
domain pointng to sip sourcery.

Now just to be sure. My google voice account should just have the sipgate 
number and google voice number checked and NOT my actual cell phone right? And 
SIPGATE account should be the VOIP (415) and google number and NOT my cell 
right? 
I am happy to copy a different plan just for the "fun" of it...lol But its not 
an emergency. I'm ready when you are...

sip calls just ring until disconnect. (should have heard a voice mail for the 
number I called)
oh.. and when I dial through the SIP in FRING do I need to call my google voice 
number and then press2 to make a call? because I dont get an answer when I just 
dial regular through SIP.
Is anything in sipsorcery supposed to show the word FRING, because it doesn't. 
I thought it did before...

Okay, I'm glad we got to the bottom of the issue with where Fring logs in. No, 
I don't believe SIP Sorcery should show Fring in the entry that shows up in the 
SIP Bindings list. Fring in the In terms of which phones to have checked in 
Google Voice, it is my understanding that Fring only rings while it is running. 
Therefore, if you are giving out your Google Voice number now and want people 
to use it when calling you, you need to have your actual cellphone number 
checked.

When you go away, you should encourage people to only call you on your Google 
Voice number and then its up to you to remove the checkmark next to your 
cellphone number just as you're leaving. That way, Google Voice will *only* try 
to reach you on Fring. When you return, you can turn your cellphone back on in 
the list.

Now we have to troubleshoot why your calls aren't going anywhere. Did you edit 
the 4 lines at the top of the script when you copied it in? At the top of the 
script you need to make sure you put in your area code, your Google Voice 
username, password, and the 415 number that sipgate gave you.

Next, I need you to open Notepad and log into SIP Sorcery. Click on Console and 
then click the Connect button. Place a call that should go to voicemail but 
doesn't. The screen will fill with a bunch of stuff. Once the call ends, select 
all of the text in the Console window and copy and paste it into notepad. Read 
through the data and place ##### over top of your personal data, including your 
email address and the 415 number that sipgate gave you. Save the file in 
notepad and attach it here to your next reply.

In particular I will be looking for syntax errors or failures to login to 
Google Voice. Also, I am running out of time here. I am leaving at 12 noon 
today and won't be online again until tomorrow morning when I'll only have a 
few minutes -- starting a new job in Washington DC. Now that you've gone 
through most of the steps, I would like for you to click on the Wiki tab above 
and look closely at section 08 again. That is the page I have been helping you 
understand. Some of the concepts may seem clearer to you now.

1.when I call my google number from skype ( to verify what is working)
it doesnt ring on my phone but goes directly to GV voice mail.
2.when I call the 415 from skype ( to verify what is working) the line
does not do anything ( no answer)
3. FRING does notify me with a special ring when someone calls my
phone from frinf to my fring.
4.Please let me know what phones need to be added and checked in each
application.
SIPGATE and GOOGLEVOICE. I do not want any calls forwarded to my
sprint cell number as I get charged for call forwarding. Please tell
me what numbers needed to be added to those two sites and am I
forwarding calls from GV to 415 # or the other way around.

Before I changed the domain in FRING I could call out from FRING SIP
and I believe it showed up as a 415 number or a GV # ( and not my sell
phone number)
Lets get this answered and I will send the other info while you answer
this...thank you

1. That happens to everyone every now and again. There are many posts in the 
forum about GV not ringing a phone.

2. "Does not do anything" vs "no answer" can mean two different things. What do 
you hear on Skype when you call your 415 number directly? Dead air (does not do 
anything) or it just rings and rings (no answer)? I had a stretch where sipgate 
didn't answer for 3 days. Just went to fast busy, but then resolved itself. I 
haven't heard of issues since then.

3. Okay so Fring is logged in.

4. You don't configure any phones in sipgate. You can confirm that SIP Sorcery 
is logged in by going into Settings -> Phones and making sure that your VoIP 
phone is green, not red. If it is red, then SIP Sorcery is not configured to 
log into sipgate properly. You must get your SIP credentials from sipgate and 
add an account for sipgate on your SIP Sorcery SIP Providers page. 

Google Voice needs to have your sipgate 415 number loaded and checked. SIP 
Sorcery sits in the middle. On the Accounts page you need to see an entry in 
the SIP Bindings list when you start Fring. On the SIP Accounts page, you need 
to see a sipgate line up top in SIP Providers *and* a sipgate line in the 
bottom list, SIP Provider Registrations. If the picture of your VoIP phone at 
sipgate is red, then chances are sipgate is also not showing up in your SIP 
Provider Registrations list at the bottom of your SIP Providers page at SIP 
Sorcery.

I did not get the console date. I need you to save the text file of the console 
with your private data blocked out. Once you save and close the file, start a 
new reply here and click "Attach a file" directly below where you are typing. I 
am checking my sipgate number for dead air.

THANK YOU! You did not fetch the correct SIP credentials from sipgate.

Log into sipgate, click Settings in the upper right corner, put your mouse over 
the phone, and a menu will pop up. Look in that menu for SIP credentials. THOSE 
are the credentials you use at SIP Sorcery not the userid you use to log into 
the overall site. With those credentials go back to SIP Sorcery, click on the 
SIP Providers page, click on the sipgate line and change the username and 
password to match the credentials you wrote down from sipgate. Make sure to 
match the UPPER case and lower case letters, if any.

Yes, there was never supposed to be a GV configured in sipgate, so whatever you 
deleted should be fine. You don't configure anything in sipgate. You configure 
Google Voice to forward to your sipgate 415 number and you configure SIP 
Sorcery to log into sipgate on your SIP Providers page. Give the name sipgate, 
get the userid and password from your sipgate SIP credentials I showed you 
above, and enter sipgate.com as the domain. There is nothing to configure in 
sipgate. You use sipgate by configuring settings at GV and SIP Sorcery.

of the key piece, and myself, the original author of the document that's 
supposed to make this process easy for everyone :)

SIPSORCERY ACOUNT DISABLED.... LOL..HERES WHAT IT READS...
Unfortunately it had to happen at some point, the single dedicated server that 
sipsorcery is running on is overloaded and I have been forced to disable new 
accounts. In actual fact I waited too long and the service is really starting 
to creak a bit with call set up times sometimes taking longer than they should 
and registrations occasionally being dropped because the responses don’t get 
processed in time.

At this point there is no plan to increase the server capacity to allow new 
accounts to be created. If the server utilisation drops off because some 
existing users drop off then I will be able to allow some new accounts but 
apart from that at this point it’s a regretful sorry to any new users.

Dialplan transaction support (for MikeT)*and* a sipgate line in the bottom 
list, SIP Provider Registrations. If the picture of your VoIP phone at sipgate 
is red, then chances are sipgate is also not showing up in your SIP Provider 
Registrations list at the bottom of your SIP Providers page at SIP Sorcery.

btw, is it a Russian name? You don't need PBXes at the moment: if you were able 
to make calls via Sipgate using Sipdroid, it should be possible to make calls 
via Sipsorcery -> Sipgate -> Google Voice. You might need to add a "gasket" 
(PBXes or Voxalot) when you're on some other internet connection, but right now 
you'd better forget about it and focus on getting your GV/Sipsorcery/Sipgate 
setup to work.

Just curious! 
Hope your new Job is going well. The main thing i want is the sip to work 
because i was able to talk to my husband when we were on wifi and that was 
super cool. So what do I need to do now that everything was set up through 
SIPCORCERY and it died? Doesn't that affect my 415 number also?

I don't work for Google, nor I affiliated with Google in any way. Sipsorcery is 
alive, but does not accept new users at the moment. Do you still have your 
Sipsorcery account?

Sipsorcery, Sipgate and Google Voice are not relatives. If one of them dies or 
you have your account deleted/disabled, it doesn't affect the others.

Mishka, neither of us work for Google. Mike mastered the art and process of 
making this whole thing work, and once I figured out how to do what he was 
talking about, I wrote up the original documentation bringing the capability to 
regular, everyday people.

one can. I LOVE IT! And I love to beat the "system" because its fun...lol And I 
am really glad you don't work for google because that really takes the fun out 
of it...lol

No because it doesn't let me log in anymore and my google voice isn't working 
either.

The only suggestion I have is to e-mail admin (at) sipsorcery.com from the 
address you used for registration of sipsorcery account and ask what happened 
to your account. Aaron (the admin) is quite cooperative and yet he's the only 
one who can help.

As to the Google Voice, are you trying to call using Sipdroid/Sipsorcery or 
you're calling your Google Voice number and trying to make a call thru Voice 
Mail menu ("press 2 to make a call...")? If the latter, please note that Google 
made changes to this. Before, you had to call your GV number, wait for ringback 
signal and press * to enter voice-mail. Now you have to wait until you hear 
voice mail greeting and then press *.

Thank Mike! GV works now! Also I am able to sign into sip sorcery! I just need 
to know what to fix? eastern PA said i didn't do it right.

The issue was that the console shows invalid login to sipgate. Mishka, we need 
you to log into your sipgate account, go to settings, point to your VoIP phone 
and choose SIP credentials from the menu that pops up. Carefully write down 
those credentials and go back to your SIP Sorcery account SIP Providers page. 
Delete and recreate your sipgate account entry, this time using the credentials 
shown on the SIP credentials page from sipgate. You do not need to delete and 
recreate your sipgate account itself, you need to delete the entry in the SIP 
Sorcery SIP Providers page where you configure how SIP Sorcery logs into 
sipgate. That's where your (first) error lies. We won't know anything else 
until you redo that connection.

Now that you have a green phone in sipgate I think you're done. Here's how you 
test.

You don't need to leave home for the first test. Start Fring and call your 415 
number from another cellphone (or any phone that has free long distance). Your 
415 number should ONLY be connected to Fring, so Fring should ring when you 
call the 415 number.

If that works, go back to wherever you need to go to get on wifi and do the 
Mexican simulation. Put your phone in airplane mode, turn on wifi and start 
Fring. Have someone call your Google Voice number. Fring should ring. Talk. 
Make sure you can hear each other. Hang up. Use Fring to place a call. Make 
sure it goes through. Make sure you can hear each other. Make sure they see 
your Google Voice number on caller id and NOT your cellphone number. Go home 
and log into sipgate and you should only see incoming calls. NO outgoing calls.

when I call 415 number from a landline- google voice intercepts the call- but 
it does not ring my cellphone- Unless I check my 305 cell number in GV. Then it 
rings me but through google voice not Fring SIP

Its impossible for Google Voice to answer a call you're placing to your 415 
number, unless you didn't get a 415 number from sipgate? Log into sipgate and 
look up your "real" phone number. Oftentimes it is 415, but not always. When 
you call your sipgate number, the only path for the call to take is:

sipgate receives the call, sends a ring indicator to sip sorcery, sip sorcery 
forwards that ring indicator to your Fring SIP client

Google Voice is never notified of the incoming call nor is it even capable of 
answering. Please double check your sipgate phone number and call that number 
directly. Maybe you're hearing sipgate voicemail pick up and thinking it is 
Google Voice but its not. Please double check what's happening.
