crashes when opening a video while an idx/sub is currently visible on screen

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. play a video with an associated idx/sub
2. during playback, while a subtitle is visible on screen, open another video
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
the new video should load without issue, but the second it starts to play a
hard crash occurs.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
mplayer_ce 0.51pre
3.3u
ntsc 4:3

Please provide any additional information below.
test videos were both xvid/avi

this crash might not just be when opening another video, but just when the 
current
video is stopped while subs are on screen.

if a video is playing with idx/sub and you go to the main menu and select "Stop"
while the subs are present on the screen, you will see the same crash.
