NTSC user here, component cables. Normal avi works great, smooth, etc. No
difference between component and composite cables performance-wise.
Are you sure? Make sure you are testing with the same exact file when switching
between component and composite. Most avi files will work great, and many h.264
videos will be choppy due to dropped frames (there's no way to fix this for all
h.264
files since the wii is not powerful enough to play many high compression h.264
files).
Not really tested DVD playback much, but some DVDs play very well and others do
not.
Again, I have not seen ANY difference between component vs composite cables in terms
of video playback performance.
