Ok I'm going to sound really stupid here, but I cant get OS to recognize that i
have V1.09 of halo ce. Any suggestions/help?

Running Windows 7, about all the specs that seem to relate

1. Uninstall OS, Halo CE and the HEK completely.
2. If you still have a "Halo Custom Edition" folder after uninstalling, rename
it.
3. Reinstall Halo CE with the official installer (it's on Halomaps), do not
move, rename or otherwise change the directory you install to.
4. Update Halo CE to version 1.09 by running haloupdate.exe in the root HCE
directory.
5. Install OS version 3.0.3 with admin permissions.

If that doesn't work we'll investigate further.

Do i need HEK for OS to work properly?

No, but if you can't install OS without it, that's a bug I need to address.

I dont think it was HEK. The only thing was that i had multiple copies of CE
all with dev enabled and i had version changer installed

The installer will look for your HCE directory in the registry and if it finds
it, it will check that the HCE and HCE Dedi exe's in that folder are version
1.09. So if you have manually moved your HCE directory from it's original
install location, or if you are using a version below 1.09 with a version
changer it won't let you install it.

That might have been it. I am re-downloading HCE now, but ive lost my key so it
might be awhile.

I know that key sharing and keygens are taboo on halo forums, but hypothetically speaking can i use one just to install the game? I only play regular halo online, so i wont be using HCE online.

Such discussion is also not permitted here. You'll have to find your Halo PC CD
key, or retrieve it from your registry (there's a tool for that on halomaps).
