I can't set what posts to appear in my slideshow, why have a slideshow then?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Just install the theme

Hello, I can't see the use of a slideshow on my site if I can't determine on 
purpose what information appears in it. I thought the meaning of a slideshow 
was to highlight specific articles more than others. Am I wrong? My suggestion 
is to let users have a category called Slideshow and all the posts in it will 
appear in it.
