How do I get rid of "comments are closed" on bottom of normal pages #87

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Any new page with comments turned off has this at the bottom
2.
3.

What version of the ... are you using?
1. Wordpress:2.9.2
2. Constructor:1.0
3. PHP:
4. Browser:Firefox latest
5. OS:Win7

What URL of your blog(s)?

Please provide any additional information below.
Just wondering how to get rid of this line for normal pages - can't work it
out.

I get ride of my opening the page.php file and removing the following code: (AS 
ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF THE FILE JUST IN CASE):

 <?php comments_template(); ?>
