Will taxonomyCleanr be on CRAN? #42

Hello taxonomyCleanr maintainers 👋 I'm in the process of writing a review about programmatic tools for taxonomic name harmonization and I want to mention taxonomyCleanr. It is such a valuable tool and fills a niche that no other tool does: writing a detailed EML of the taxonomic matching.

However, taxonomyCleanr is only available on GitHub, so it is at risk and getting offline at some point. I know by experience that submitting to CRAN can be a long and frustrating process, but will you consider submitting to CRAN at some point?

Is there a paper that describes formally taxonomyCleanr? That could also be a good option to consider to get credit for the work you did here. Subsidiary question: do you know papers that use taxonomyCleanr?

Congratulations again for the great tool 👏 !

Hi @Rekyt! Thanks for your interested in this project and your kind encouraging words!

Yes, we will consider publishing on CRAN but it will be a while until we get around to it. We have 3 other GitHub hosted R packages ahead of taxonomyCleanr in the queue (i.e. ecocomDP, EDIutils, EMLassemblyline). In the interim, I would be happy to publish a release on Zenodo to help with referencing and persistence.

We don't have a paper describing taxonomyCleanr and are not aware of any papers that use it.
