Noob mode, Advanced mode #8

Possible enhancment
I love this app, and I love the added functions of v12. However I believe
11.5 was much better for noobs, with its limitations and such. I would hate
to give this to someone and have them try to install ios60 stub instead of
the correct version.

Would it be possible to implement a default noob mode, which would not
allow the uninstall of any ios except stubs, and would not allow the
installation of stubs or the installation of a system menu without the
correct ios.
Then have an advanced mode with full function. Perhaps hold + and push A at
ios selection or something.

Excellent app, keep up the good work.

Just an FYI there are some failsafes already in place.

1. When you run the system menu installer. It will check if you have have the
correct
ios installed and if you don't it will ask you to install it right then in
there. If
you deny installing the appropriate IOS it exits the installer.

2. It will not allow you to uninstall the System Menu IOS based on the current
system
menu installed.

There are some others but those are on the top of my head.

Also the "advanced" features were requested by users so we implemented them.

I really think implementing a "noob" mode is going to be tough to manage because
different users will be at different levels of usability and having different
features for different levels will be tough to manage. This is one reason why
during
the rewrite of the app, I made sure a lot of fail safes were put into place to
help
protect against at least some of the major potential bricking situations.

I will think about this some more but I really don't think it would be worth
the time
to split out functionality on different levels. Because I know as soon as we do
something like they then there will be requests for Beginner, Intermediate,
Advanced
and Expert levels.

I agree !
2. It will not allow you to uninstall the System Menu IOS based on the
current system menu installed.
You said uninstall. Just protecting the uninstallation of the IOS ?
Is there a protection to not allow the installation of a Stub of the IOS the
system
menu is based on ?
As exemple, on Wii 3.4 with IOS50v4889 and i want to install v5120. if i do
this, i
brick SM so is there a protection ? Because this is the most important risk of
brick

That is good to know. Will it install a stubbed system ios to the system menu?
Say
stubbed ios60 on a 4.0/4.1 under the ios install menu? Or will the fail safe
prevent
this? Say for someone who needs to patch ios60, but not install the system
menu, it
would prevent them from installing the stub by mistake.

Actually looking I should go back and add a check to prevent from accidental
stub
installations.

We've got tons of safety checks in now since the issue was opened. You
shouldn't be able to ruin your Wii with DOP-Mii even if you tried.
