10 years ago I agree, this would be great. Ideally we would sample before initial setup to get a good starting channel, and then periodically sample after that when the network is at peak usage, since nearby networks likely peak together (i.e. after-dinner Netflix viewing time). Unfortunately I think scanning a given band for interference may require disabling the wifi network on that band, which probably means it's not practical.
As a user I want my router to switch channels automatically to the channel with the least interference So that I get the best signal and speed
