Privacy badger failed to initialize (2024.6.3) #2979

I appreciate that this issue has been solved for most people, and it's quite curious that I am receiving this error now, because I never received it prior to an hour ago.

Chrome: Version 125.0.6422.142 (Official Build) (arm64) Privacy Badger: 2024.6.3

Some potentially relevant background information: About 40 minutes ago, I was suddenly experiencing weird connectivity issues (I assumed it was wifi/DNS issues) but I closed and reopened chrome to check. Other systems in the house were working as normal. I do not believe this restart triggered an update in Chrome (I think I updated a few days ago).

That's when I noticed the red exclamation mark on Privacy Badger (wasn't there before). The weird connectivity issues also stopped.

No matter how many times I restart Chrome or the extension, the issue persists. I'm happy to supply more information where directed.

Thanks!

Thank you for opening an issue! Previously: #2966

Could you open the dev tools console for Privacy Badger's background service worker and see if there are any relevant errors there? Feel free to post screenshots here.

  1. Visit chrome://extensions
  2. Enable "Developer mode" in the upper right
  3. Click the "service worker" link in Privacy Badger's listing
  4. Switch to the Console tab

Hi @ghostwords,

Thank you for the swift response.

I didn't change anything and re-enabled PB just before turning on developer mode. The error is gone, and I cannot replicate the prior state.

I am very sorry for such a confusing state of affairs—like I said, I really did nothing different. If the problem happens again, I'll reopen the issue (if that's what you would want).

One thing of note—most if not all my cookies have expired suddenly. I had to relog into GitHub, etc.

Thanks for the update!

If this happens again, it would really help to see the contents of the dev tools console for PB's background service worker.
