Hello and thanks for opening an issue!
What are the domains that Privacy Badger blocks connections to when you try to connect to a tunnel?
Could you open browser dev tools on vscode.dev, switch to the Network tab, and try connecting to a tunnel with Privacy Badger enabled? The Network tab should show one or more blocked requests at this point.
Also, what browser does this happen in? If this is in Chrome, could you see if you can reproduce with Privacy Badger in Firefox? Thank you!
Thanks for the quick response. I'm using latest version of Chrome. My device is organization owned and I cannot install other application, so unfortunately I cannot test Firefox.
Here are the screenshots:
On the location I covered up, there is an ID-like string so I covered it in case it is sensitive. I hope this is helpful.
That's great, thank you!
Could you open PB's options page, select the Tracking Domains tab, search for "visualstudio", and move the toggle for visualstudio.com
to the middle, yellow position? Are you then able to connect to a tunnel with Privacy Badger enabled?
Thank you very much! The problem is fixed! I thought it would be disabled automatically when I turn it off for this site, but it looks like it wouldn't.
OK, great! Thanks for debugging and testing with me.
I still don't know why disabling Privacy Badger for the site doesn't work around this breakage but I'm glad we figured out the relevant domain.
I am now going to set api.visualstudio.com
to the middle, yellow position for all Privacy Badger users. Your Privacy Badger should get this update within the next 24 hours. If you like, click the undo arrow next to the visualstudio.com
toggle to keep blocking other subdomains of this domain.
@FlysonBot Just checking, do you have the latest Privacy Badger (version 2024.7.17)?
Yes I do. I noticed similar issue also happened to other website that uses dropbox's api to store and retireve files. I think it will be a good idea to make sure that when disabling the extention for a specific site, all the rules are actually disabled. Before I knew this, I had to disable the extention to get my data sync and then enable. Sorry this is a little off-topic.
In vscode.dev, when I try to connect to a remoate tunnel, I got AxiosError: NetworkError. Even if I told PrivacyBadger not to block anything on vscode.dev, the issue still occur. Everytimes I need to connect to the tunnel I have to go to extention and turn PrivacyBadger off, and then connect, and then turn it back on. It's annoying.
