Dropbox content for websites #311

I have been recommending PB to everyone wherever possible. But I noticed something deeply disturbing the other day. At first I thought all three of my sites hosted on Blogger had suddenly crashed or lost all dynamic function and embedded media and styling. That should have been a clue, but I missed it.

DropBox is one of the last cloud services that allows direct media linking in a website for such as images and style sheets. Anyone using a free hosting system with minimal to no storage will need to use it.

My visitors to my own sites (three) were the ones to report that my sites were all a mess. So obviously users are not paying attention to PB settings. At the same time, I recommend that DropBox be graded as "yellow" by default rather than "red." The default privacy setting for DropBox content was the problem.

Honestly, I understand the need for privacy defense, and I also know that tracker and privacy invasion has become and epidemic. At the same time, many users will use PB in a set-and-forget mindset. The current setting for DropBox produces collateral third party losses for sites like mine.

Hi JC, Sorry about the problems that you had! Indeed not adding dropbox to the greylist of sites to cookieblock was certainly an unfortunate oversight on our part. I have created a patch to add it in #312 and it should be up in the next few hours. I'm glad that you are enjoying privacy badger and recommending it to others. I hope that you have no more problems once dropbox becomes unblocked. Cheers!
