There should be a maintenance decision for AI religious heads (only those with a landless=yes religious head title, others don't apply) that have managed to get stuck under a wrong-religion liege to automatically go independent. They should get rid of any counties that they hold (usually they hold nothing at all, except holy orders may hold scattered baronies around the map, but they should keep those) & set themselves independent in this case.
