CAM-SIMA should update all of its Fortran MPI interfaces to the 2008 (f08) standard. This was recommended by CSEG, and will likely be required in order to fully support physics interoperability and CCPP framework unification with NOAA and NRL.
Although likely necessary at some point, this is currently marked low priority due to the fact that we don't want to make this change until after the CAM7 release branch has been created, in order to avoid causing issues with the CESM3 release deadlines. This is due to the fact that currently CAM-SIMA and CAM share physics schemes, and moving CAM-SIMA to the 2008 standard could cause problems in CAM itself.
