The goal of this merge is to have python_master be a branch of "stability" while python_devel is less stable. The desired effect is to better track the working status of the installer. Alpha release tags will be applied to python_devel which will indicate progress in resolving bugs and specify the points at which components installed by the installer are determined to be in working order.
Initially, python_master will be as unstable as python_devel, but after several "alpha releases" its stability will improve.
