Update to rule 3.3 #171

Closed KarlOfDuty closed 3 years ago

KarlOfDuty commented 4 years ago

        3.3 Town claims
Creating claim arms extending from towns is not allowed.
These are protrusions which are often used to block the expansion of other towns or just artificially expand the area a town controls without the need to claim all of it.
Claim arms that follow a certain strip of land surrounded by water like a peninsula or series of islands are allowed however as no one would be claiming around it anyway.

Towns are not allowed to have areas of unclaimed chunks inside of their borders as this can substantially increase the size of a town without them actually having to increase their claim limit legitimately.

Towns which are clearly created for no other reason than to block an existing town will also be removed.
This applies to situations such as creating a town in the sea on the border of another town as there would be no reason to claim there other than to block the existing one.
It does not apply to someone just placing a town close to an existing one if there is not much room to claim in the area.
Staff will routinely remove hollow claims as we have automated tools for that, the other types of claim blocking will only be removed when reported by the mayor of a blocked town.

I think changing it to "only the blocked town may complain about claim arms", this way peaceful arms are allowed and offensive ones arent, and it will help lower claimblock tickets.

TheSuperGamer20578 commented 4 years ago

unless I'm missing something this change means that people are allowed to make towns with the purpose of blocking other towns by surrounding them

this is an example of where a town can claim block under this rule in this case its two towns both made by the same person then sold image the rules should say something about having the intent to claim block or surrounding a town like this

if we look a bit further north there is a town right where I was planning to claim made by the same person who made the others image in this case its only one chunk but it's still very annoying

@DeadGlamour This rule will no longer have any agreements between players, it got too messy with players reporting others they had previously agreed on claims with. The new rule can be changed if you wish but it will not include any kind of three party debates as the old one did.

@TheSuperGamer20578 Your first image would be against the rules though in the updated one? And in any case we weren't able to figure out a good way to word the other part so we just added this for now, we can always add something about single claim towns afterward.

No need for agreements / debate, I just ask that only nearby towns / players permitted by the mayor will be allowed to report such claim arms, there would be no need for 3 party debates, as the agreeing part wont be looked at again, its just only the blocked party can report it, and they will have to be trusted with it (instead of just random people reporting towns).

I think a good wording would be : "New towns aren't allowed to be made if they will be sorrounded by other towns." While not perfect it would still prevent the worst cases.

sounds good. so if a town is created and is claimblocking someone or a town starts to claimblock how long does the town getting claimblocked have to report it?

KarlOfDuty commented 4 years ago

I have updated the rule according to the comments here.

iFluxify commented 4 years ago

What will happen to the towns that were created after the rule was changed? Especially the ones which created claim arms, claim blocks, etc.

KarlOfDuty commented 4 years ago

The rule will apply to all towns regardless of when they were created.

DeadGlamour commented 4 years ago

Very based indeed

TheSuperGamer20578 commented 4 years ago

When will this be merged?

DeadGlamour commented 4 years ago

So, pretty much every1 supports this, when will the rules page be updated?

VonApollo commented 4 years ago

Any refunds for claimarms made when they were allowed?

TheSuperGamer20578 commented 4 years ago

merge when?

I am aware this is a very controversial and sensetive topic, but right now, basically everyone support the proposed redefining of it, and while it's delayed many players are quitting and disbanding their towns due to it, Turkish players community (for better or worse) have completely died out because of constant claimblocking, if its justified or not is not the issue, its the fact players entirely destroyed the gameplay to others and make players leave. This also isn't even limited to Turkey, Germany and France both still have their massive claim arms intact. Entire nations are getting claimblocked with nothing they can do, and this whole thing just encourages toxicity and pre-emptive strike mentality. So can we please please get on with it, for the good of the server, this needs to be sorted out.

DeadGlamour commented 3 years ago

27 days passed since it was "merged", I think the community at least deserves an explanation, and I have to seriously ask, do you even care about the server anymore?

Merge to master all PRs, then merge master into the new site branch I guess then edit the new branch :/
