Probably because that encoding is not very common, but I don't really remember since it's been more than 15 years since the code was written. After a quick check it looks like it'd be easy to add, feel free to submit a patch.

@miili or anyone else: is there a SeedLink server I can access that is distributing records with float sample encoding for testing?
