As PhD student and user of the data, I would like to be able to assess the deviation of the measured value of the quality control standard from the reference value in order to have an independent evaluation of the uncertainty/quality of the measurement run.

As far as I understand the quality control standard is a probe with known isotope concentrations. It is placed in the middle of the rack and measured like a regular probe. The deviation of the measured isotope concentrations and the actual (known) isotope concentrations tells us something about the quality of the entire measurement sequence.

Precisely.
