Thanks for writing the file. Where should be stored? Should it be installed or
just kept in the sources?

It should be installed to /usr/share/appdata/hedgewars.appdata.xml

Mm. Well, we don't really do installation on that level. Leave that to the
packagers.
So I guess we can put it in:
http://hedgewars.googlecode.com/hg/share/hedgewars/Data/misc/
or
http://hedgewars.googlecode.com/hg/misc/
And someone could try to alert the distros and whatnot.

Any news about this?

Hey all. It would be awesome to be able to feature hedgewars in gnome-software,
but to do this I need a tarball release with the AppData file included and also
some more high quality screenshots. Ideally these should be 16:9 aspect if
possible.

First of all, I fully support this issue. But it could be improved.
The proposed game description is a bit vague and does not fully describe
Hedgewars. Someone who has never played Hedgewars or a game with similar rules
will not know the point of this game from the description. Scorched3D is a
turn-based artillery game, too but still very different. Also its 2D
counterparts are not really comparable to Hedgewars. I think the word
“artillery” does not hold true for Hedgewars, since you can drop weapons
from rope and the UFO as well.
Quite some key features are missing. Also I don’t like the listing of featurs
in bullet-point style.
A pretty good description (in my opinion) is on
<http://www.lgdb.org/game/hedgewars> (I have written it), maybe you can
incorporate some parts of it into the game description.
As for screenshots, I think this is a perfect task for the community. I have
created a thead called “Post your screenshots!”:
<http://www.hedgewars.org/node/5598>. Comments should go into the thread.

It would be really cool if any of the devs could get this in, with the changes
in the last comment...

Hedgewars would be kicked out of the software center (only the GUI program) in
Fedora 22 if it doesn’t include an AppData file. But it’s luckily a long
way to Fedora 22, about a year or so.

Heh. If someone gives me a file I can toss it under misc in the repo.
But that's hardly the main problem with Fedora.
The main problem w/ Fedora is that they are still on 0.9.18… ಠ_ಠ
Yes, a release from 2012, 2 releases ago.
Frankly, if they dropped the Hedgewars builds and forced players to do their
own, we'd prob have fewer issues w/ Fedora players wondering where all the
other players are...

I'm confident we will see an updated Hedgewars build on the software center now.
