USGS review #115

from Ellis:

After working with Craig, I assume you know about the USGS review procedures: 1) we'll need a reviewer outside of the journal review process that we can select, and 2) we'll need to have the USGS approve the response to the 1st journal review and that revised manuscript BEFORE it is sent back to the journal. This has been taking ~2.5 weeks lately, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I don't foresee any problems getting USGS approval, and they often make good editorial suggestions, but in some cases you might have to ask for an extra week from the journal. You can always blame it on the Gov, ha.

@ellisqm73 , would it be problematic from the USGS perspective to make this repo, with the draft manuscript, public before publication?

ellisqm73 commented 3 years ago

Kristina,

I don't think that would be a problem, particularly if the manuscript has the draft statement I added up front and it wasn't advertised (like as a pre-print before journal review that I see people doing more and more these days). The later would probably get me in trouble.

As you remember from other papers co-authored with Craig, I've entered this manuscript in our USGS review system. This means: That I'll need a word doc of the submitted ms and the SI, please. We'll need to wait for USGS approval, about a 2-week process, before revisions are submitted to the journal (optimistically assuming a good journal review).

Note to self: I need to integrate the Editor's requested changes (in Dropbox).

@ellisqm73 , I believe I have addressed all issues raised by the editor (except issue #145, which I'll come back to), so I'm closing this issue. Please let me know if anything else is needed for this process.
