from PZ: Perhaps good to somewhere also mention that this indivdiual-based analysis focussing on multiple drivers offers more opportunities for using tree-ring data as benchmarking tools for demographic DGVMs. (Actually, we’re doing something along those lines now for HHK with ED2).

Here's a sentence I put in the intro, but am now removing because intro is too long:

Moreover, while tree-ring data has been used for benchmarking dynamic global vegetation models [DGVMs, e.g., klesse_combined_2018], an individual-based analysis approach focusing on multiple drivers including DBH would offer more opportunities for using tree-ring data as benchmarking tools for demographic DGVMs [REFS?].
