The chests in treasures and tribulations are supposed to attack differently depending on which chest you choose. The large chest is supposed to hit harder, but attack slower and the small chest is supposed to attack faster, but hit for less damage. Last night we attempted the medium and small chests and both were hitting for 140+ per auto attack through protect3 and knight's minne 3. The attack speeds do seem to be working correctly as the small chest seemed to be attacking much faster than the medium chest, but for the same amounts of damage.

i tested this on retail and either this mechanic was removed or never existed. i definitely remember the different speed/strength from era, but a) now every chest hits with the exact same speed and strength now so it's hard to tune, and b) the few vids im seeing from era do not show any difference. kinda wondering if this was just what people thought vs. reality.
