I'd like to avoid adding components that are specific to certain parts in favor of just adding parts that give that functionality instead, they're a use sparingly sort of thing.
In general though, I do definitely agree with this and think it'd be useful to have more complex camera controls.

Why are you making your suggestion?
Cameras, while useful, could be made much more useful for manual control or just general use by adding various features to expand their utility.
What do you propose? What should change, or what should be added?
With the work on the Components system seemingly underway, I thought I'd suggest a few uses with Cameras. Components that can be installed to give the camera different modes (if possible, this mode would be toggleable between normal and the installed auxiliary mode, but otherwise this mode would replace the standard camera view)
These modes would specifically be things like Night Vision (perhaps with a custom color, if possible?), Thermal Imaging, or perhaps even more exotic camera modes (one that highlights specifically visible players/NPCs, for example) and may come with a downside of reducing image fidelity with a filter of some kind, requiring power to run, or some other drawback.
This would make cameras much more useful as a gunner's sight, surveying tool, and make them generally more camera-ish.
Further features/components like zoom and in-camera GUI overlays are other improvements I've had in mind; zoom could be similarly a component or configurable value, accessible through microcontrollers or keybinds, while things like camera GUI overlays are a more difficult subject that I don't have the experience to properly expand on, but I thought I'd include this idea as it would allow for things like graduated optics for weapons or, if these GUIs are able to integrate with microcontrollers or logic systems, things like rangefinders.
