This has two parts, one is making message selection a little less transient (likely adding checkboxes), and the other is moving the dialog into a more permanently visible position.
Not sure the ideal solution here. I do like the idea of a dockable widget that you can pull out into it's own window to save space. Needs some time spent playing with ideas.
