@fbrandao.uk, just copy that .so above into your ~/.purple/plugins/ directory

I'm also on ubuntu 10.04 and using pidgin 2.6.6, but after copying the .so file
to ~/.purple/pligins/ and restarting pidgin, I see no such option in the Modify
Account windows.
The plugin also doesn't show up in the plugin list (I assumed I had to enable
it before it becomes active). Any clues to what may be the problem?

waldir.pimenta, eionrobb,
I’ve tried pasting in the folders but unfortunately nothing happened, just as
waldir sayd above.
:/
I think pidgin is much better than empathy but the icons for the protocols
drives me nuts sometimes! I got facebook and gtalk using the same icon, that's
very confusing!

I just saw that you merged issue 5 to this thread. hopefully you can upload
compiled code for pidgin 2.7.9.. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 (x86). I had to create
a plugins directory in ~/.purple as it didn't exist, and then I moved the
icon_override.so file from Vanger.m's post. However, after exiting and
reopening Pidgin, it didn't add anything to the account pref advanced tab for
icon.. :-(

I also copied the icon-override.so file to /usr/lib/pidgin, with the rest of my
.so files for pidgin. this is the only one not working right now, and its the
only one that I really want to work!

Attachment on issue #4, comment 1 fixes the problem with the plugin not showing
on the Plugins (on Linux x86). The plugin shows as "Protocol Icon Overwrite"

I've added 32bit and 64bit downloads to
http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-icon-override/downloads/list
The two files posted in this issue were both 64bit so wouldn't have worked for
32bit peoples :)

Confirmed: downloaded the 32bit .so, copied to ~/.purple/plugins, and after
(re)starting pidgin I had an extra field "Protolocol Icon" in the advanced tab
of the Modify Account dialog. I put "google-talk" in the box (according to the
filename on /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/protocols/16) and on next restart, I had
the correct icon for my gtalk contacts. Thanks!
