Not receiving messages on Debian/SteamOS #135

Debian Jesse SteamOS Brewmaster Pidgin 2.10.11 Libsteam version 1.6.1

Regardless of whether BPM is signed in or not, I don't get messages delivered to Pidgin. I get the notification that the other person is typing, and they can read messages I send from it. This problem persists on Windows for a few minutes after switching.

What's BPM? You say you're on Debian but "this problem persists on Windows" I'm very confused.

Can you get a debug log when someone tries to send you messages but they don't appear, through Help->Debug Window

BPM being big picture mode, Steam's console-like interface, which is the default state for SteamOS. About it persisting on Windows, I mean exactly what I said. The problem only occurs if I boot into SteamOS and try to chat there, but if I reboot my computer into Windows, it will continue doing it.

An update: It seems like I just have to go completely idle in Steam chat for about 30 minutes to fix the problem. At this point I'm guessing something about SteamOS being aggressive in registering to receive messages...

As for a debug log, sure, I'll do that. No guarantee on when though.

I've noticed this as well with my phone. I'm not sure how it works but it seems like it's intended to be a feature to prevent notifying the phone and computer at the same time if you have both.

I'm trying to reproduce the problem/feature but I can't seem to. Maybe it would help changing what you identify as? (pidgin>accounts>yoursteamusername>edit account>advanced>identify as)

Also, while that sounds good in theory, I don't think I've ever had this problem under Windows with Steam running in the background while I chat on Pidgin. So... Possibly, but in that case I'd assume it's a recent update. Last time I was messing with SteamOS, which was back around Nov/Dec, this didn't happen either.

Okay... I don't have a debug log, because instead I have a new case: It decided to just work fine this time... I'm not sure how to reproduce it now... I'll wait and see.

http://puu.sh/nkTdy.log This couldn't be attached for some reason, so here it is. At 00:16:14 I sent a message, I received a reply at roughly 00:16:30 - which did not show up in Pidgin, I messaged again at 00:17:26. This is the result of filtering by "steam". I hope that's fine.
