Constant Disconnects #88

I have had pidgin-opensteamworks v1.4 installed since approximately 1/18/2014
on my desktop running Windows 7 64-bit. It used to be reliable, but ever since
around the summer sale, I have had constant issues being disconnected.

I keep the official Steam client open whenever my desktop is running, and I
don't have issues with it.

Since 10/24/2014, over a period of 8-9 days, pidgin-opensteamworks has
disconnected approximately 1000 times (approximately 200 times on 10/24/2014)
I have pidgin-logstatus-0.7 logging user statuses. (I also have skype4pidgin
installed, which uses the Skype API and relies on the Skype client being open)

I installed pidgin-opensteamworks v1.4 on my laptop yesterday, 10/31/2014
(running Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon Edition x64) and it has disconnected 53 times
so far, but most of those appear to be reconnect needed (I have the debug
window and all 9 logged so far are for reconnect needed)
I tried building r96, but I had dependency issues and was unable to
successfully build (errors such as "fatal error: gnome-keyring.h: No such file
or directory" where changing "#include <gnome-keyring.h>" to "#include
<gnome-keyring-1/gnome-keyring.h>" removes the error but more errors appear)

The laptop's disconnects occur at different times than my desktop's
disconnects, and the official client on my desktop has been connected at least
12 hours with no issues.

In my provided debug log, the first disconnect occurs around line 310

Thanks for the excellent bug report and debug log. I don't think there have
been any changes since 1.4 that would help with reconnect needed. Your debug
log shows that the server is timing out when we try to connect for events, I
could possibly add in a bit of leniency so that it retries a few times. You
could also try enabling the "force https" flag in the advanced tab of the
account settings to see if that helps.

Enabling the force HTTPS flag seems to help with both issues; my laptop appears
to be staying connected (earlier, I was getting reconnect needed at most every
~15 minutes; so far, it has been connected 30 minutes), and it hasn't timed out
on my desktop. I'll report back when a longer period of time has passed. (A day
or two? I'm not sure how long to wait unless the issue reoccurs)

Thanks

Maybe I should make that enabled by default, or just remove the option
entirely. Let me know how you get on.

I haven't had any more unexpected disconnects other than 2 each on both
computers that happened during a short time period. (Something could have been
going on with Steam's servers or my connection, but I'm not sure since my Steam
client didn't lose connection.)
All four were reconnect needed; I'm including a cut log (information-wise
they're mostly identical other than the specific times, although the
information is primarily from my desktop)
Anyway, it looks like using HTTPS should be a lot more stable long-term.
I can upload a more complete log if you need one, just let me know.

The forcing HTTPS option does not really help for me. :/ Every minute I have to
reconnect, both in Finch and Pidgin.

I don't see a force https option, but I also experience a lot of disconnects, using version that I downloaded yesterday here. (Windows 10 64 bit)

I am using version 1.61 and also face constant but random disconnects. It has nothing to do with screensaver on or idling. It is annoying to retype your password ~10-20 times a day. I also do not understand why libsteam.so does not take the stored password?
