The need in this PR is questionable now, see https://github.com/EionRobb/skype4pidgin/issues/660#issuecomment-694537095

Just rolling back 6d6abba7446d6b7b0694af54ec5273463b77a468 should do fine as well.

Still hope that my macro will inspire you on some refactoring :) (as those error checks look really repetitive).
