Currently the recommendation seems to be to name Elara source code files with a .el extension, (see elara.el) however this is already pretty established as the convention for naming Emacs Lisp files - maybe .elr or .elara would be better
That is a good point, albeit Emacs Lisp is a fairly obscure language.
.elr seems like a reasonable extension that isn't too annoying to type in something like VS Code
