[FR] Make flywheel weights configurable. #782

While I'm not the deciding factor on balance, I feel that flywheels are too heavy and would like a config to be able to lighten them up. As it stands, I have to wait a whole half-hour in real time to spin up a turbine with just one of those suckers. That's incredibly long, so I usually forgo the flywheel just to prevent me from wasting gobs of power/steam. Either that or make em lighter so I actually want to use them in my system.

Err kind of everything in the shaft network is too heavy. It's a problem which has been addressed and will be looked at in the future. As for the idea of configurable weights, that might work really well with the component fabrication system that's being passed along the developers right now.

BTW you can use the flywheel as a sort of energy storage! This is also how people in real life store large amounts of mechanical (and sometimes electrical) charge without needing expensive batteries and it's shockingly efficient. You do need to pay about 1kJ per second to keep it going but it will supply reliable energy for a long time during those off hours and if you use enough and drive enough power into them you may be able to rely entirely off your flywheel network for months.

Oh, I'm aware the flywheel functions sort of like an energy buffer. My issue is that it's too heavy for my needs. You either spin up a raw turbine in about 2 minutes, or add a flywheel and take over half an hour. A nice medium would make it worthwhile for me to use those things, as I don't have power systems that require 1.21 Gigawatts.

Looking forward to using them when this gets looked at, as I'm a bit tired of my turbines getting overly excited on load changes.

The flywheel default weight will be reduced. I may or may not make it configurable, but probably not until we have a suitable crafting system.

There are generator upgrades coming that will simplify spinning these up, however. How do you feel about separate excitation?

I did a little bit of playing around last night and you can use a small network of shafts leading to air to give the network more capacity without going too excessive, though the amount of shafts you need to place is itself a little excessive and should only be done in cases where you absolutely need that extra control.
