I've never heard it called that, but I'm no electrician. Believe it or not, I don't think any of the developers are electricians.
I'd say the existing bulbs are sufficient, rendering the bulbs is possible, but is it really worth the GPU time to render the detail? I don't think so.

doesn't have to be as detailed as the image, it would be easily done in blender as a round base and bulb socket and a model for the bulb when one is in the socket.

But it can be optional, just leave a line in config for that, and users can select between regular rendering and fancy rendering, in cost of performance, of course. It will be a nice feature, to see CFL and incandescent lamps as in real life
add Keyless Lamp Holders and a new light fixture type,,,
