Will admit to not reading the backstory, but is the idea that setting log to trace logs function enters/exits automatically? If so that may be worth a sanity check test

Actually it's just that we want a level more verbose than debug. Eventually we might decide to change the automatic logging of all websocket traffic to the trace level, for example.
