For some reason, I can't get the video player to show up unless I open the link in a separate tab, even with this extension disabled. Is it using Flash for you? What browser version do you have?

chrome v51, It is flash however it seems to be triggered by embed.js and somewhere in that is the setting that triggers flash to autoplay

What happens if you enable click-to-play or disable Flash entirely?
