Looks like OmniGraffle, and while that is scriptable, could be y'all are using hand-placement

Amazing work with that wee Drawing tool and window. Even if there were automatic left-to-right layout tools for timelines, you can't beat hand placement in the end. Edit: oh my bad not the Insert->Drawing feature of Docs and Sheets, the regular lines and text boxes of the main Slides UI,

Similar tech https://timeline.knightlab.com/ can be git-backed, is left to right and interactive, but emphasises a single timeline entry, with only part of the many-events view being on the bottom of that
