WriteTogether #20

Everyone gets a question and 3 minutes to answer the question. The question requires a one paragraph response. The key idea here is to have students write an introduction sentence, a supporting sentence, an evidence sentence, and a wrap up sentence. Once a student finishes writing, we automatically swap the paragraphs, and let other students provide peer feedback. One thing the other student does is tag the sentences with the following components: intro, support, evidence, conclusion, etc.

Note: This is extremely simplistic. Let’s look at examples of good argumentative writing, break down the writing style, and provide variety to students.

We then have teachers rate the work and feed that into LightSide. We can use LightSide to then provide automated feedback in addition to student feedback. Students provide the first level, LightSide provides the second.

We create sets of content questions for each grade level and subject. We then get teachers across all subjects to Write Together by having them spend about 20 minutes doing a write together session where students create their own ideas.
