SMS 3d glasses support #173

That's not a problem and I am not asking to add to Genesis+GX, just curious.
Meka and SMS+GX support it both. How it works using an emulator ? I remember
that you must connect the glasses to the console .Is it possible to watch 3D
games on a LCD TV ?

SMSPlus does not really emulate 3D Glasses. This device is normally controlled
by the game with alternatively switch off the left & right lens, while
displaying an appropriate image on the TV screen. With the glasses, your eyes
will adapt the images they see for a pseudo-3D effect. If you don't have 3D
glasses, the picture will look weird and kinda shaking. That's what happen with
emulators which normally render the screen as usual.

Now, we can intercept the commands that the game send to the glasses (they are
writes to some ports, just like the game send commands to the Video Controller
or Sound chip) to know which lens is "supposed" to be shutdown and therefore
skip frame rendering for one of the two lens. The result is like a normal game,
which is why it is called 3D faking, it simply makes 3D programmed games
playable without those 3D glasses. But off course, there is no 3D effect
anymore.

I think it's possible to connect Master System 3D glasses to your computer but
it requires an home-made adapter and some hardware skill. Meka seems to have
support for that and some instructions to make the adapter but I never tried
that and never had those 3D glasses anyway. Off course, there is no way you can
connect them to your Wii (maybe it's possible *in theory* but I am pretty sure
this will never happen).

Because of the way Master System 3D glasses work (controlled by the game), it's
not possible to use traditional glasses (red/cyan anaglyph ones or those used
with 3D movies) without heavy modification to the way the screen is rendered by
the emulator. I know some emulators exist which made possible to use red/cyan
glasses but I don't really know how this works and the effect is not really
good anyway with 3D master system games.

And as far as I know, always because of the way they worked, it should be
possible to use Master System 3D glasses with a LCD TV, what matters is only
image generated by the console, not how it is displayed.

Thank you for answering. About 3d glasses I’ve tested 4-5 years ago with a
SMS 1 of a friend who is collector like I .We played Outrun & Zaxon 3D and the
3D effect it’s not cool (my point of view) . SMS 2 hasn’t the connector for
them.
