Removing Wiimote from controller configuration unexpectedly prevents Home button from opening menu #226

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Using the Wiimote, reconfigure Player 1 to use a GameCube controller
2. Still using the Wiimote, resume the game
3. Press Home button to open the menu

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I was expecting to see the menu.

Instead, I saw nothing.

If non-configured input devices aren't going to be able to open the menu, it
would probably be a good idea to at least (a) warn the user about this and (b)
tell the user how to open the menu using the configured devices, at least when
they have just removed the last Wiimote from their configuration...

What version of the emulator are you using (official, SVN revision,...)?

Installed on 2012-06-05 using Homebrew Browser.

Please provide any additional information below (Emulator settings, Console
setting,...)

Everything else was at the defaults.

(a) sure, i should display a warning every time user is changing input
configuration, very user friendly :-)

(b) there is an user manual for this, I suggest reading it, i actually spent
lot of time making it the most complete possible and I expect people to at
least read it when they are stuck.

Sorry, but not everything can be made into the GUI.

Anyway, this behavior has been modified in current SVN (see Issue210), I still
do not see why someone who want to use gamecube controller for playing would
want to press wiimote button to access the menu but here you go, it seemed to
be an important issue for some people...

I was mostly thinking of a "didn't read the manual, don't have internet/PC
handy, want to save-state" scenario...

And yes, the manual *is* pretty nice, though it might be nicer if it was
available in something besides Word format...

Well, it is distributed as PDF with the emulator in the zip
I thought it was better than usual plain-text files but it must be something special with README files as nobody never read them anyway :-p

Ah. I'm not sure if that was included in the Homebrew Browser package I used or
not... (I'm guessing not?), but either way, I hesitate to remove the medium
from which an application is running. (Anyway, as it happens, I do have access
to Word, so it was no big deal.)

Thanks!
